When approached by former clients to build a new home for their young family we encouraged them to consider a Passivhaus. This was a new term to our clients and the benefits of Passivhaus were explored, and it was quickly realised that the only way to ensure an energy efficient, sustainable healthy home was to build Passivhaus.

The challenge in this build was to achieve a timber clad double storey home which meant we needed to find suitable external cladding to achieved a low maintenance result moving away from traditional hardwood shiplap cladding. Applying our knowledge, we are very well versed in sustainable timber options, we entered the world of Accoya and Abodo, charred claddings and Sioo:x finishes. These new age timbers are sourced from sustainable forests and naturally treated to achieve a stable, low maintenance timber, leaving the beautiful native hardwoods for the interiors where they are not broken down by the relentless contrasting Australian seasons.

A 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom + study home is enveloped in new age timbers externally and celebrates Australian natural timbers internally. The timber clad interior living spaces face north and open onto a blackbutt deck surrounded by stunning native landscaping.

This sublimely designed, low maintenance home, utilises new age building methods and materials that achieve a low environmental impact home.

Carefully crafted, beautifully built.
